Empowering Vulnerable Youth

The Center for Champions

Target $100,000

What is the Center for Champions?

The Center for Champions is a technical and vocational education and training (TVET) school founded by AEE Rwanda in 2008 to rehabilitate delinquent street children and orphans.

Since then the school has grown dramatically. Now with the Government of Rwanda training curriculum and taking general admissions students, the Center for Champions still focuses strongly on youth from disadvantaged and vulnerable backgrounds. In 2024, of the 832 students at the Center for Champions, 321 were sponsored for the course and boarding fees.

The Center for Champions currently offers both three-year diploma courses and one-year short courses in: Welding and metal Fabrication, Masonry and Construction, Plumbing, Electrical, Tailoring and Fashion Design, and Hair Dressing and Beauty Therapy. The three-year courses provide a thorough grounding in the theory and practice of the trade and for students with the ability, offer a path to university. The one-year courses are more directly targeted at teaching an in demand skill and job placement, with students spending eight months in classes and workshops, then four months placed into an internship.

What your support will do

We need to open up more places for students from families that cannot afford the course fees. These are young men and women whose potential will otherwise never be realised.

Acquiring a quality education with a practical trade skill is life-changing.

  • An unskilled labourer in Rwanda earns on average $26/month – that is less than a dollar a day

  • A skilled trades-person will earning an average of $86/month - the better educated the more they will earn.

Sponsorships give a place at the Center for Champions to young women and men from poor and disadvantaged backgrounds.

A recurring donation of $60/month will sponsor
  • One 3-year diploma student, or
  • Two 1-year short course students
